    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    Q. What is a bail bond?
    A.
A bail bond is a specific type of insurance call a surety bond, that can be purchased to release a person accused of a crime from jail.  The bail bond or surety bond guarantees the person appearance in court each and every time the judge orders.

    Q. What is bail bond premium?
    A.
With a bail bond, as with other forms or insurance, you will pay a “bail bond premium” or fee to the bail bond agency based on the amount of bail. The bail amount is set by the court. Ask about our 4% bail.

    Q. What is bail bond collateral?
    A.
Collateral is anything of value offered to the bail bond agency to guarantee the defendants appearance in court. Home mortgage, stocks, bonds, cash or anything of value may be used.  Collateral is returned when the bail bond is exonerated.  ZZZ’s Bail Bonds does not require collateral on most of our bail bonds.  Call now and ask about signature bail.

    Q. What is a bail bond exoneration?
    A.
When a defendant is sentenced, acquitted, or the case is dismissed, the judge will exonerate the bail bond.  Responsibility of all parties involved is terminated and of all fees are paid, all collateral is returned.  Call now if you have any questions.

    Q. What happens when a person fails to appear in court?
    A.
When a defendant on bail fails to appear in court for any reason, the judge will do two things:
    1) Order the bail bond forfeited
    2) Issue a warrant for the defendants arrest and the defendant must be surrendered to the court (arrested) or his bail must be re-instated with in six months or the face amount of the bail bond must be paid to the county.

    Q. What is a bail bond re-instatement?
    A.
After a defendant has missed a court appearance, the bail agent may take the defendant back to court, submit a “Letter of Re-assumption”, and ask the judge to reinstate the bail bond.  In most cases the judge will honor the bail agent’s request.  The bail agent and the court will charge a fee for re-instatement.

If you have any other questions about the bail process, please call one of our licensed bail bond agents now!  Bail information is always FREE.
